Acrobats are constantly testing the limits of their bodies and pushing them into an endless fight in which their opponents are physiological reality, gravity and the laws of physics. This battle is lost before it begins. Whether he is aware of it or not, the artist’s only goal is to postpone defeat, to delay the moment when time will triumph over his abilities. The circus artist is a tragic hero; he owes all his beauty to the vanity of his fight. He cannot accept his position: “His revolt is his humanity”.
