SANJA MITROVIĆ is a theatre director, performer and lecturer born in Zrenjanin (Former Yugoslavia). She emigrated to the Netherlands in 2001. In 2009, she founded Stand Up Tall Productions, a theatre company dedicated to collaborative projects in the field of socially engaged practices. Her work, often based on close engagement with different communities, has gained international recognition for its exploration of theatre's relation to the social, political and cultural realities of our times. Across various formats and contexts, Mitrović has developed a documentary approach, responding to world events and performers' own biographies. Over the last decade, her projects have been commissioned, co-produced or presented at international festivals and venues, including BITEF Theatre and BITEF Festival in Belgrade, Centre Dramatique National Nanterre-Amandiers, Schaubühne in Berlin, Kunstenfestivaldesarts in Brussels, Wiener Festwochen, Theater Spektakel in Zürich, and Teatro Nacional São João in Porto. In 2010, Mitrović was awarded the BNG Nieuwe Theatermakers Prijs for the best young director by Theatre Instituut Nederland. She has been Artist in Residence at the Centre Dramatique National Orleans, Festival a/d Werf in Utrecht, Het Veem Theater and Theater Gasthuis, both in Amsterdam. Since 2013, Mitrović lives in Brussels where she teaches drama and documentary theatre at the Royal Institute for Theatre, Cinema and Sound.
